The aim of this workshop is to give anyone new to portraiture a good foundation in the principles of creating a likeness, through an understanding of head construction, positioning of features and effective use of colour. You will learn how a good use of tone can bring reality and structure to your work; essential to successful portrait painting.

This workshop is suitable for beginners in portrait painting, but with some drawing ability.

Includes homemade lunch, refreshments and cream tea

 

About the Artist

Keith’s art education was gained during four years at Hornsey College of Art. He is an enthusiastic tutor and believes that good observation leads to good paintings. He now tutors Portraiture, Still Life and Life workshops, demonstrates Still Life and Portraiture to art societies, undertakes commissions, and paints people he admires. To date, his most famous sitters have been the jazz pianist and composer Stan Tracey OBE and the actress Siobhan Redmond. Keith has been short-listed for The Garrick Milne Prize, exhibited with The Discerning Eye (2008, 2009), The Royal Society of Portrait Painters (2003, 2006, 2009, 2010, 2011) and The ROI (2010, 2012, 2013).

What to bring

All materials and equipment are supplied on this workshop, however you are welcome to use your own if you prefer.
Keith will have some photographic reference, but feel free to bring your own.
