Sue Thomas – Waxing lyrical with an Introduction to Batik-SORRY FULLY BOOKED

Date: 27th October 2019
Time: 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Spaces: -2

All Materials Included

Batik is a way of creating gorgeous designs on fabric – paper, cotton, silk – using wax as a resist. Selected areas of the cloth are blocked out by brushing or drawing hot wax over them, and the cloth is then dyed or painted. The parts covered in wax resist the dye and remain the original colour.

We will use a contemporary form batik / faux batik, which owes much to the past, but is markedly different from the more traditional and formal styles. Working on both silk and cotton we will experiment with discharge dyeing, bleaching, stencils, different tools for waxing and dyeing……. and much more.

Includes light buffet lunch and refreshments

About the Artist

“The main thread of my professional background has largely been that of Educator – in some form or other.  I have experienced teaching a vast range of abilities and variety of ages.  My guiding principle has been to empower people to more fully realise their potential and their creative abilities. My aim is to motivate and inspire students to have confidence in themselves and explore thoughts, feelings and ideas through creative expression.

I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t painting drawing or creating. The almost magical alchemy of colour and silk makes Silk Painting and Batik exciting media to work in. I produce Art work for the home, work or meditation space, as well as silk items to wear, and cards for all occasions.

I am a member of The Guild of Silk Painters, The Batik Guild and The Essex Silk Painters”.
