March Newsletter

It has been a busy couple of months here at the Old Bank. Although the art hasn’t quite kicked off yet, we have had a lot of full classes in sewing, patchwork and quilting, felting, enamelling and machine embroidery, all of which have produced some stunning results.
Nigel and I took advantage of a gap in the programme and took ourselves off to Amsterdam for a few days. It is so easy to take the ferry overnight from Harwich and you get a lovely cabin. We stayed in an exquisite hotel called the Amrath and if you ever get the chance I would thoroughly recommend it, beautiful Art Nouveau inside and out.
A visit to the fantastic Van Gogh museum is a must, as is the obligatory photo with sun flowers. I also picked up this rather fitting quote: “if you ever hear a voice within you say ‘you can not paint’ then by all means paint, and the voice will be silenced” Vincent Van Gogh
Our full year’s Art Programme has been a great success and many of our courses are already fully booked, but I still have a few spaces in March and April – it’s not too late for a Mother’s Day gift!

That’s the art……..
I was really pleased to welcome back Toni Peers this weekend, we had a very successful day with enamelling on copper, it’s addictive and I plan to book her again, maybe incorporating some silver clay work.
I still have a few places left on Alex’s Pebbles and two day linen panel, all of which can be viewed on our website. There is also a beginners patchwork table runner day with a few spaces. Basket weaving has fully booked but we will be adding two more in August.
Sliver Clay with the much acclaimed Melanie Blakie still has a few spaces, you will make several pieces of real silver jewellery all fired in a kiln and burnished. I have done this one and love it, she is the guru of silver clay and there will be the opportunity to buy one of her books, silver clay and instructions on how to fire your work at home. More info.
And finally, Dressmaking with our forever patient Amanda Walker, just two places left, Wednesday mornings. This course also includes a 10% discount card from Franklin’s. More info.
Thank you all for accepting our News Letter, I am so lucky to run a business that I am passionate about, and we are both really looking forward to getting the painting season going again in March.
