David Hatton – Portrait Sculpture in Air Drying Clay
2 Day Course Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th July
All Materials are Included
With David’s experience and guidance you will work using modern, air drying clay which is impregnated with nylon fibre, giving a strong stable finish. The construction and use of an armature (the internal support for your sculpture) will be explained, however yours will be prefabricated to allow you to get straight into sculpting. David will begin a demonstration showing his approach and techniques for building up in clay before getting you started. At different stages he continue with short demos and tuition, taking you from start to finish. Finally you will be shown acrylic finishes that can be used to give a bronze effect.
The full process will give you the skills for realising a three dimensional form directly from a live model. David will explain the anatomy of the head and how to achieve the correct proportions using calipers to measure, as well as observation. Building on this foundation you will start to develop the features and work towards a ‘likeness’. David will provide one to one tuition throughout the two days.
This course is limited to 10 students
Includes homemade lunch, refreshments and cream tea both days
