Kathleen Laurel Sage – Organza Extravaganza

£130.00 | 13th June - 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM | Spaces available: 9

Two day course Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th June

Day 1 – Machine embroidered Seahorse panel

This is Kathleen’s signature workshop. Using dissolvable film, machine embroidery, trapped and layered organza fabrics, cutting back techniques and use of a soldering iron to produce lacy see-through panels resulting in a full understanding of the process and techniques that Kathleen uses in her work.

Day 2 – Sketched and Soldered Floral Fabrics

In this workshop we will be concentrating on using layers of organza trapped between water soluble film to create a delicate and see through fabric that your stylised design will hold together. You will learn to draw with your sewing machine and sketch out your botanical floral design using black thread and free motion machine embroidery. Once dissolved you will use a soldering iron to add detailing to your sheer delicate panel that can be applied to a more substantial background or hung to allow the light to come through and illuminate the design.

Includes homemade lunch and refreshments both days

About the tutor

Kathleen is a freelance designer and embroiderer who for the last 20 years has been producing a wide range of innovative textile works using a soldering iron and a heat gun. She predominantly works with water soluble stabilisers to trap layers of organza and other fibres such as Lutradur and acrylic felts that will melt, to make a range of conventional items and exciting 3-dimensional structures using machine embroidery as the common link.

Kathleen’s inspirations are taken from her own garden and gardens of the National Trust which she visits regularly, drawing and taking photographs as visual resources for an ever growing collection. Sea life and the ocean are another fascinating area of interest for her.
