Hello everyone,
Last weekend we took our students outside for our first ever Plein Air painting workshop and in spite of a rather biting North Easterly, it was a huge success. We also have a couple of other events where we plan to venture out of the studio in the name of art and craft. The only problem now is how to get the soft furnishers and textile artists working in the fresh air!
Haidee-Jo Summers AROI in action on Harwich Quay

Haidee-Jo Summers Plein Air weekend

What a wonderful experience for all those that attended this event with such an amazing and inspirational artist – after a full day as tutor and mentor, Haidee-Jo was back on the Quay in the evening to produce this fantastic painting; such passion for the work!
And it gets better, Haidee-Jo will be back at about the same time in 2017 and we are trying very hard to persuade this very busy lady to come for a second visit next year – watch this space.

The Harwich Festival of Arts is fast approaching and we are busy getting things ready. During the period of the Festival our studio and other rooms will become gallery space for the Old Bank Studios Summer Exhibition, which means we have some different ideas for workshops: Willow Weaving taster sessions in the garden with Deb Hart, Drink and Draw (sketching in a local pub) with Sue Pownall and a Plein Air day which is open to anyone and FREE.
Please check the website for details as they are now being added.

The textile studio will be fully operational through the Festival where we will be offering taster sessions and short workshops. If you fancy making a Textile Bowl, Stitching Copper, making a Folksy Art Textile, Needle Felting a Teddy Bear or want an introduction to sewing through making a row of bunting, we might be able to help.
Please check the website for details as they are now being added.

There is still time to book a place on Keith Morton’s “Essence of Portrait Painting” workshop in oils or acrylics.
The aim of this workshop is to give anyone new to portraiture a good foundation in the principles of creating a likeness, through an understanding of head construction, positioning of features and effective use of colour. You will learn how a good use of tone can bring reality and structure to your work; essential to successful portrait painting.
Below is Nigel’s effort from Keith’s workshop last year – his first attempt at painting a portrait.
