Festival Excitement

Goddess of Harwich

We are at last “underway” if you’ll excuse he pun with our mosaic boat project.
Along with HF18 (Harwich Festival of Arts) we have commissioned an  acclaimed, local artist Anne Shweggman-Fielding to mosaic a boat which will be on display on the green in front of the Old Bank during the festival and will ultimately be a permanent installation in Harwich.
The concept is “Goddess of Harwich” who is the goddess of the waters and arts, she: protects, inspires and encourages creativity in all forms (bit like us) ha ha!!!!!!
HELP
If you would like to get involved here is what you can do, we are collecting crockery with lettering, writing, musical notes, or connected to Harwich. It will be broken up and used on the project, If you have anything let me know or you can drop it in to The Bank or the Library.
Anne will be working in our Bank Studio from Wednesday, we are so excited, we will also be arranging some dates where anyone can come and get involved.

Next meeting – Tuesday 15th May

Of Course You Can

I have been running a lovely course with some very enthusiastic ladies who have produced some amazing results. I have arranged a special dying day for them with Mary Macintosh, City & Guilds tutor, on May 25th. If anyone wants to join us I have a couple of spaces.
You will: Produce a hand dyed colour wheel, learn how to space dye and ice dye, have an opportunity to experiment on your own fabric, ending up with about 3m of dyed fabric pieces.
All materials included 10am to 3.00pm £45.00 (packed lunch required) Ring, text or email me for this one, its not online 079441339023.

The above course is starting again on 15th June, it’s for 5 weeks on the third Friday of the month. We do all the wet stuff in the morning and machine embroidery in the afternoon. I supply all the materials so you don’t have to bring anything, the idea being you get to try lots of different things, starting with acrylic inks and backgrounds, we also explore areal perspective and colour. Then lots of free motion machine embroidery, techniques, needles, threads etc. I have been overwhelmed by the success of this course and the work that has been achieved.
