Bev Caleno - Making it Real, Summer School

5 Day Summer School

Monday 2nd to Friday 6th September

All materials included

Designed by nature, a much extended version of my one and two day classes with lots of scope to do more pieces, go larger and add painted details, such as butterflies and lichen.

This is my signature workshop that I taught in Australia earlier this year.

The course will commence with an introduction and some ideas from reference material and advice on how to design your work, including making decisions on size and format. You will have the choice to make a few smaller pieces or one bigger piece.

The process begins with painting and preparing fabrics with inks and paints, then moving on to make the basis of fungus. Using several different methods of machine embroidery, including water soluble and burning away on different foundations we will create the different shapes and textures of tree bark.

How to make moss will be explored through the use of the embellisher and hand painted silk velvet.

We will use more delicate fabrics and machine embroidery to make butterflies or moths, also flowers and foliage, which we will then use wet on wet techniques to paint them to give a realistic appearance.

The week will wind up with advice on construction, composition and ways in which to display the finished pieces.

Includes homemade lunch and refreshments each day
