This is a brand new concept for 2023.
Old Bank studios’ textile retreat is suitable for anyone who has done a little or a lot of machine embroidery, by the end of the week you will have completed a 3D textile project that can be displayed in a bell jar. The retreat allows you to immerse yourself fully in the creative process with daily expert tuition by Bev Caleno; with a maximum of 10 students.
The theme is Coral Reefs and each day you will learn different techniques in machine embroidery using lots of different products, as well as burning, using heat tools and water soluble methods to produce a piece of artwork that depicts reality. We will also explore interesting mediums and applications with paints, inks, gesso and expandaprint. As well as free motion embroidery we will be using hand stitching to produce “textidermy” creatures.
Towards the end of the week we will be arranging all the pieces in to a 3D artwork, considering: composition, colour and construction.
In addition to a completed textile sculpture; by the end of the course you will have a catalogue of original techniques that can then be adapted and used with different subjects.
Overview of the week
Students will arrive on Sunday afternoon around 6pm, after being settled in to your room, welcome drinks and nibbles will be served in The Bank, this gives everyone a chance to get to know each other and have a good chat before the classes start on Monday.
Price and Payment
The price includes:

£995.00 per person in any of the choice of accommodation, whether sharing or single
A non refundable deposit £195.00 will be required to secure your place.
The balance of £800.00 will be required 8 weeks prior to the retreat
We are offering an easy payment schedule of £195.00 deposit and 8 BACS payments of £100.00 on 1st of each month, January through to August.

You have the choice of staying in our accommodation above the studios, in our bijou cottage adjoining the studios or in the Wellie Stern, an historic house beautifully and eclectically furnished and not more than 50 yards from the studios.

Wellie Stern Accommodation
The Wellie Stern is a boutique AirBnB with its own kitchen, lounge and downstairs cloakroom. Old Bank Studios will have sole use of the Wellie for the duration of our retreat.

Classes 10am to 4pm including 12.30pm to 1pm lunch

In the evening you are free to continue your project in the studio or use the communal lounge in the Welly Stern.
What you will need to bring
A sewing machine in good working order. (I can supply a high end sewing machine by prior arrangement)
