This five day course is suitable for anyone who has done a little or a lot of machine embroidery, by the end of the week you will have completed a 3D textile project that can be displayed in a bell jar. The retreat allows you to immerse yourself fully in the creative process with daily expert tuition by Bev Caleno; with a maximum of 10 students.
The theme is Coral Reefs and each day you will learn different techniques in machine embroidery using lots of different products, as well as burning, using heat tools and water soluble methods to produce a piece of artwork that depicts reality. We will also explore interesting mediums and applications with paints, inks, gesso and expandaprint. As well as free motion embroidery we will be using hand stitching to produce “textidermy” creatures.
Towards the end of the week we will be arranging all the pieces in to a 3D artwork, considering: composition, colour and construction.
In addition to a completed textile sculpture; by the end of the course you will have a catalogue of original techniques that can then be adapted and used with different subjects.
What you will need to bring
A sewing machine in good working order. (I can supply a high end sewing machine by prior arrangement)
