Colin Ayers Pastel Pet Portrait for Beginners

All Materials Included

This workshop with Colin is perfect for beginners as well as those with a bit more experience. The day will start with an introduction to different surfaces (papers and velour) and different techniques for applying and blending pastels. Working from reference provided by Colin, you will then learn how to transfer an image onto velour pastel paper. Using soft pastels to create a colourful base to your picture, blend them together to form a smooth layer. Finer details are added with pastel pencils to complete a pastel painting to be proud of. There will be advice on how to protect your work and the best way to mount and frame it.

For those with more experience it may be possible to work from your own reference photo, however the day is structured around the subject chosen by Colin and you would need to bring your own pastels.

Includes homemade lunch and refreshments

About the Artist

I am a full time artist and a professional associate of the SAA, which is an organisation for all artists from beginners to professionals.

Since a child, I have loved art; I was encouraged to do pencil drawing and paint by my family, particularly my paternal grandfather, who taught me various drawing techniques.

Over the years I have attended various art courses and workshops to improve my painting.  I took early retirement from the NHS during 2013 to pursue my art interests; I have steadily increased my teaching commitments and exhibition work.  I run classes and workshops; also, demonstrations for art clubs.
