Jo Hammond - Willow Weaving Berry Basket-SORRY FULLY BOOKED

All Materials Included

This neat little basket is ideal for picking nuts and berries, or collecting eggs.

Beginning with two hoops, your basket will gradually take shape as you add a decorative willow tie, ribs and then weaving. You’ll learn how to split willow, to shape the ribs, and some simple weaving techniques.

If the weather is fine and not too cold this event may take place within our walled garden.

Willow weaving is a physical activity and requires reasonable hand strength.

Includes homemade lunch and refreshments

About your tutor

An East Anglian native, Jo Hammond grew up and continues to live in ‘Constable Country’ .

Her degree in Fine Art shows itself in her feel for simple rhythmic designs

Other qualifications include a City and Guilds 7307 Teacher’s Certificate and a Certificate in Countryside and Heritage Interpretation

She aims to use and promote locally-grown materials and make the most of the wonderful variety of colours to be found in willow.

Jo began basketmaking when living in the middle of a wood- the gift of a book opened her eyes to the weaving materials that were all around her home

Teaching and demonstrating for the last twenty years, Jo has worked with a variety of organisations including the Field Studies Council, National Trust, Suffolk College, Museum of East Anglian Life, Suffolk Wildlife Trust, and the Woodland Trust. Jo seeks constantly to learn about her craft and promote skills and enjoyment with her work.

Jo has had a book published which is currently available from many outlets.

In 2021 Jo constructed a life size willow elephant for the grounds of Colchester Castle.
