Whether booked as a one or two day workshop, working with John Glover promises to be a hugely rewarding experience. Working from life, John a passionate portrait and figure painter, will teach you not only the painting techniques required, but also how to bring the personality of the subject to your work.
Each day will include demonstrations by John in both pastels and oils, as he instructs you on anatomy, proportions and composition. Beginning with quick sketches you will build up to a longer final pose where you will be able to make a colour study in the medium of your choice. There will be plenty of guidance on the use of tone and colour.

About the Artist
Born in Scotland, John Glover studied at the Glasgow School of Art and completed a BA Arts Degree with the Open University. He has worked as a freelance book illustrator in London for such publishers as Evans Brothers, Hamlyns, Oxford University Press and Macmillans. However, since 1980 he has concentrated on his love of portraiture, for which he has become highly regarded. His subjects have included people from all walks of life, from grand official portraits, to more intimate family groups or individual studies. He works in all mediums from pencil to watercolour, pastel to oils.
His work has been exhibited with the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, The Royal Institute of Painters in wartercolour,The Royal Society of Marine Artists, The Royal Institute of Oil painters, The Pastel Society and The National Portrait gallery ( as part of the Imperial Tobacco Portrait Award).
What you will need to bring
Drawing boards, easels and other equipment will be available to use on the day and you will be able to purchase paper and canvas.
