Learn to use a sketch book to make a holiday diary using pen and watercolour. The Workshop will begin with a demonstration of this most convenient and portable method of working. You will then attempt your own sketches and paintings from life as well as from your own holiday snaps. This day will provide you with plenty of useful hints for working outside, choosing subjects and working at speed.

Includes homemade lunch, refreshments and cream tea

About the Artist

Lavinia Hamer works principally in Watercolour and Pen and Wash with a strong interest in natural subjects, but also uses other diverse media; from pastels to papier mache and stained glass. She began her art training at Falmouth School of Art and took her degree and post-graduate at Chelsea School of Art as well as a post-graduate year in Holland.  She regularly exhibits new works, teaches and demonstrates to art clubs and societies. As well as contributing to Art magazines, Lavinia has illustrated a number of books.

What you will need to bring

Paper good quality heavy cartridge e.g. Daler Rowney 200(pink covered pad or black hardback sketch book). Choose a size convenient to take on holiday. Avoid spiral bound.
Pens fine line that contain waterproof ink such as Profipen, Unipin Faber Castell drawing pens. Size .3 and .5 are good basics; smaller and larger are also useful. Avoid spirit based pens.
Paint a box of watercolour 1/2 pan blocks is easy to use.
Brushes short handled, round, nylon/mix (not bristle) sizes 4,6, or 8 for example.
Pencil and rubber
A few holiday photographs to work from.
