This is a 1-day workshop during which participants will design and decorate their own patchwork bag using recycled denim. The bag has a long strap, an outside pocket and is lined. A die cutting machine will be available on the day for learners to use to create appliqué decoration for their bag.
Techniques covered:
• Using rotary cutting equipment
• Free form, improvised cutting & piecing
• Stitch-and-flip piecing technique
• Using a die cutting machine (optional)
• Fused appliqué using Bondaweb (optional)
• Machine quilting, using decorative embroidery stitches if available on the class machines.
Suitable for participants with experience of using a sewing machine.
Approx. finished size is 12” wide x 15” tall, excluding straps.

What you will need to bring:
• Notebook & pen
• Small personal sewing kit, including hand sewing needles, scissors, pins, unpicker.
• If you have it, bring your rotary cutting kit (mat, ruler, cutter). However some kit will be available for those who do not have their own.
• Old jeans, 2 or 3 pairs in different shades, washed, small holes/tears are OK, larger sizes are best as there is more usable fabric.
Items available to buy on the day for a small charge:
• Wadding (or curtain bump) – min 36” x 16” (please do not buy what is known as ‘2 ounce’ or ‘4 ounce’ wadding as this is better suited to furnishings/upholstery)
• Lining fabric – 0.5m x 44/45” craft cotton
• 0.5m Bondaweb (optional)
