This day will provide the opportunity to explore a few basic techniques that can be used with gorgeous coloured dyes on silk.

It will be in 2 parts . . Using ‘Gutta’ on Silk and Microwave Dyeing to produce your unique designed silk scarf length.

Microwave dyeing has an alchemy that combines steam fix dyes and silk to produce a bit of magic. We will use ‘Shibori’ style folding to experiment with ways of folding, tying, splashing and dipping your silk – each piece is totally unique.

‘Gutta’ is a form of resist that can be used to outline, delineate and embellish your designs on silk.

These techniques are very different, but will enable you to have fun and create beautiful silk pieces.

Includes light buffet lunch and refreshments

About the Artist

“The main thread of my professional background has largely been that of Educator – in some form or other.  I have experienced teaching a vast range of abilities and variety of ages.  My guiding principle has been to empower people to more fully realise their potential and their creative abilities. My aim is to motivate and inspire students to have confidence in themselves and explore thoughts, feelings and ideas through creative expression.

I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t painting drawing or creating. The almost magical alchemy of colour and silk makes Silk Painting and Batik exciting media to work in. I produce Art work for the home, work or meditation space, as well as silk items to wear, and cards for all occasions.

I am a member of The Guild of Silk Painters, The Batik Guild and The Essex Silk Painters”.
