August Newsletter

Yippee summer is back….

Let’s hope that today’s nice weather lasts a little while. We are taking a break for a few days – our annual trip to Southwold, but not all glamping, it will give me an opportunity to pop into Craftco and meet up with Jackie Linney, silkscreen guru and textile artist. Nigel is also hoping to catch up with our good friend Andrew Pitt at his studio and maybe some plein air watercolours – you never know!

So, what do we have to look forward to?

Coming up very soon, 3 days dressmaking with the lovely Amanda Walker. There is still space for one or two more; working from your own patterns or Amanda’s or even finishing off something you have already started and I’ll be around to help out as well – 21st, 22nd and 23rd August. Hot on the heels of this I have a 2 day course on Thursday 24th and Friday 25th. This will be great for those who have dabbled in machine embroidery with me and would like to take it further  and larger. All materials are included – paint, silk, craft fabric, etc. working on black or white background. I am really looking forward to this one, however there are only a couple of places remaining.

New for the Autumn

Join me for a short Textile Art and Machine Embroidery course, 5 sessions of all you need to know, to continue on your creative journey.
Then there’s the long awaited Tuffett workshop. Two tutors – myself and Maria Spiller, plus a strong man to pull your button in! ooh err…
I will also be introducing my Hot Book Covers. You will use my own hand painted fabric (supplied) to layer up, stitch and burn out a unique book sleeve.

Design and Development
As well as my classes and workshops, admin. and keeping the Schnoodle entertained, I also put a lot of time into developing my ideas. These 3D hydrangeas were inspired by an article in Stitch magazine, developed firstly in paper, then using hand painted silk and water solubles – thank you Tracey Chapman.
My new Hot Book Covers are a mixture of soldered fabric and techniques in Margaret Beale’s new book New Ideas in Fusing Fabrics.
And then there’s the Painting
After a bit of a break through August the art programme continues with the usual good mix of artists, working in a variety of media. As with earlier in the year we are continuing with some Wednesday dates, this time focusing on Oil Painting for Beginners. The first of these is with Daphne Sandham and deals with the absolute basics before attempting an oil sketch in the style of Constable – go on have a go, you know you want to!
