October Newsletter

This is the painting Nigel did in the style of and during Janet Mayled’s recent weekend with us.

What a choice

With this autumn’s art programme we aim to have something for everyone. Pastels, watercolour, Beginners Oils, Art for Wellbeing, Lino Printing, acrylics, paper cutting, Chinese Brush and alcohol inks – what else could you want. More about all that in a bit.

Harwich Festival of Arts 2018 (HF18)

Now, I don’t normally start going on about this until nearer the time, when we’re getting really excited. However, I thought it’s worth a mention early on, especially if you are in the Essex area. The first meeting was held the other evening – attended by Nigel (I was teaching so missed it) – and it seems that next year is going to be a bit special. The Essex Summer of art is to celebrate it’s 10th year and is being launched in Harwich alongside our own festival. Basically, there will be even more going on in June/July 2018 and the organisers of the Visual Arts are looking for anyone who has a good idea and wants to get involved. The next meeting is at Old Bank Studios on Tuesday 24th October, so let me know your ideas or if you would like to offer some of your time and I can put it to the panel. Following on from the success of the Willow Whale, I have another public art project planned for HF18, which may need some arty/crafty types to lend a hand to later on; I’ll keep you posted.

While I think of it………Tea Shop

Our (not so) little girl has gone off on her travels indefinitely – last seen in Vietnam – which puts the Tea Shop in jeopardy for next year’s festival.

Here she is with her intrepid friend, lost in the jungles of South East Asia

We might have to re think the whole tea shop thing and get some help in – but what about her world famous Lemon Drizzle Cake?

Back to the programme

Anyway all of that is some way off and we’ve got lots to do before then, so lets see exactly what is coming up.

Firstly we still have a few places available for this coming weekend, so it’s not too late to join one of the countries most recognised contemporary pastel artists, Tony Allain.

This month’s Banksy Bite

The boy is doing fine, here he is in a ‘Then and Now’. The latest picture was taken on our most recent basket making day with the lovely Deb Hart. He hasn’t grown at all…………..or is it a bigger basket?

I think that will do for now, I’ll give a reminder of the other art workshops coming up next time. I should just mention Tuffetts – If you have some quilting and sewing machine experience, you can come along and make a fantastic footstool.

One last thing before I sign off. Next month we are hosting a private event for plastic surgeons from Broomfield hospital. It is themed around portraits and is aimed at developing creativity and is also an opportunity to step outside their normally intense workplace, offering an occasion for some informal team building.

We can cater for many types of tailored group events; be it work based, a hen party, your art club or just a group of friends who want to organise a special day out.
Just contact us by email or phone with your idea.

Until next time, keep on creating.
All the best from us at the Bank
Bev, Nigel and Banksy (and Magpie, but we don’t talk about her)
