June Newsletter

Yes, I don’t know where the time has gone, but we are now only three weeks away from the Harwich Festival of Arts 2017 and Old Bank Studios Summer Exhibition. There suddenly seems an awful lot to do – PANIC!

Summer Exhibition

The Harwich Festival of Arts is a great annual event, which although primarily a music festival also features a lot of other attractions. This includes a growing visual arts contribution, this year made up of art exhibitions, public installations and short films.

To compliment all of this activity we are putting on the Old bank Studios Summer Exhibition for the forth time. The studios will become unrecognisable as the main hall, dining room and end studio are transformed into gallery space. Most of the exhibits will be by artists who teach here at The Bank, with some featured local artists as well and Nigel has promised to get some of his recent work framed up – all of which will be for sale at very affordable prices. I have given myself the dining room, where I will be showing my own original textile art works (also for sale), alongside examples of work produced on our various workshops and courses. You will also get a sneaky preview of new, upcoming workshops for later in the year and 2018. As well as being available to talk about all things Textiles, I will have a work space set up for demos.

Bonnie’s Pop Up Tea Room

With the improvements we have made to our facilities i.e. Kitchen in the vault and the garden (better, but not quite there yet) we are able to make your visit even more inviting. Our daughter Bonnie will be serving up teas and coffees and maybe something naughty to eat, whilst you peruse the exhibition or sit out in the sun.

Business as Usual
Anyway as much as we love putting on the Exhibition and want it to be a great success, we can’t just do that and are continuing to do the other thing we love, which is putting on workshops and courses. We still have a few places available for things to come and do in June, up to the point where we have to clear the studios and the gallery takes over. So here’s a bit of a reminder:
