Enough about the kitchen………

I know this newsletter comes hot on the heals of February’s, but that one went out a bit late and we had a few things we wanted to tell you………..sorry he made me do it.

Start Drawing
Nigel has started a drawing group on Wednesday evenings 7.00 to 9.00, aimed at beginners and improvers. It is run on a drop in basis and costs £10 per session. Each week he will set up a subject or theme and offer guidance and tuition – as well as tea, coffee and bickies. If you would like to join in and haven’t been before, just give us a call and let us know you’re coming. 01255 242930. In spite of the fact that we haven’t really publicized the group, the first two have been well attended, with as many men as women – a first in the studio!

Hazel Lale

For those of you who subscribe to the SAA’s Paint Magazine, I’d like to point you in the direction of an interesting article in the March edition by Hazel. In it she discusses the thought processes and methods which lead her away from purely representational interpretations of her subjects, towards a more personal and emotional response. In the article she uses animals as the example, but her subjects range from portraits, to buildings, to landscape. All are approached in the same way, a manipulation of line, colour and shape to find exciting patterns and compositions.A painting by Hazel adorns the front cover of our 2017 Art Programme and fits very nicely with the theme of her workshop with us in May – Boats and Harbours.

Gallery Page
For too long our gallery on the website has been – to say the least – woeful. This week Nigel has has started to update the pictures and with a bit of help from our Tech Guy, it should all start to look more relevant and interesting.

‘Painting’ with PastelsUsed by artists since the Renaissance, pastels are an art medium in the form of a stick, consisting of pure powdered pigment and a binder. Whilst they can be blended on the surface, they cannot be mixed like paint and therefore are available in a huge range of colours.
If you’ve never used Pastels before and would like to try before you buy, you can join Tim Fisher for some expert tuition with all materials supplied, including Tim’s own ‘Fisher 400’ pastel paper.
