Well they said it couldn’t be done! But after 6 days of hard graft from our hero of the hour Daryl, ably assisted by Nigel, the patio at the back of the studio was completed in time for our enthusiastic group of willow weavers. Ten superbly crafted garden obelisks created with guidance from the hugely talented Deb Hart.

Whale on the beach at Harwich……

Whilst on the theme of willow, I’d like to weave in another item of news. We have been granted most of the funding needed to create a temporary sculpture on the beach right here in Harwich. As part HF17 (Harwich Festival of Arts 2017) Deb Hart has designed a sculpture of a life size baby whale which she will be weaving in situ over the first few days of the festival. There may be an opportunity to join in the making phase if you have experience working in willow (contact us if you are interested), as well as demonstrations of willow weaving during the festival.

Other outside action

Well at the moment it looks like the wind will drop and the sun might even put in an appearance this weekend for all of you coming to paint outside with Haidee-Jo Summers, but rest assured, whatever the weather she will be inspiring you all to achieve – en plein air.

Haidee-Jo’s event is fully booked, however for those of you who fancy the challenge of taking your painting outside we have another weekend coming up – this time with Roger Dellar, Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th August. Anyone who has been fortunate enough to paint with Roger will know what a great and giving tutor he is and at his happiest when painting out in the elements.

Sketching Outdoors

Yet another opportunity to work from life is available on Mike Riches’ ‘Capturing Life in a Sketchbook’ workshop, which is exactly as it sounds. Join Mike for some expert tuition on how to get the best results from forays with your sketchbook. There are a few spaces still available.

August – we have decided to do the same, so bring a project whether it is something new or a piece which needs finishing. Apologies, but I have also had to change the dates; they have been revised to Monday 21st, Tuesday 22nd and Wednesday 23rd.
